Introduction:
Inglewood High Year 13 student Tina Fredricksen
was eager to learn about electronics...at least enough to produce
this fantastic light display when the house lights went out...
Close-up of the wings...

Red LED's are sewn into the cloth with conductive
foil.
At night...

In the light of day...

A great demonstration of series and parallel
circuits at work...and they look better on the model than
on a lab bench! Light emitting diodes do not use waste
power as heat as much as light bulbs do so the battery
will last longer.
A simple flip of a small switch hidden
in the costume turns on the LEDs.
What did the audience think at the fashion
shown? When the model came onto the catwalk and the lights
suddenly went out, the crowd "ooh"ed and "aah"ed
when the brilliant wings lit up and spread out.
Well worth the effort and another example
of "just in time learning" leading to useful
knowledge and skills. Well done Tina! (and thanks to the
model too!)
