What is SciENZ?

SciENZ is the Science Teaching e-journal of New Zealand Science. The SciENZ publishing team was established in 2011 composed of teachers, recognised experts in education research and school students.

SciENZ is the only peer reviewed journal in New Zealand that focuses on articles written by teachers for teachers but also provides a voice for students to comment on how they experience science education.

SciENZ will include readable and informative pieces exploring

  • questions put to policy leaders and ‘science celebrities’
  • bringing the fun and creativity back into science
  • recognising opportunities to engage in authentic science
  • gaining confidence in using equipment
  • the latest software or emerging technologies
  • interesting trends or science news stories
  • opinion pieces from teachers about teaching and assessing science
  • articles from students reporting how they experience science education in New Zealand

Two of the journals goals are

  • to help teachers develop confidence in engaging in authentic practical science activities
  • to provide a professional development opportunity for teachers to gain confidence in writing peer reviewed articles as they share their professional knowledge and experience
