Nodule Formation on White Clover Seedlings by Transconjugant Caulobacter Thirty Days After Inoculation

Left to right

  • Rhizobium strain 2163::Tn5 (nodules present)
  • Transconjugant MCDF100. Note the tumour-like growth on the side of the root. Transconjugant Caulobacter inside are unable to fix nitrogen. The plant is no bigger than the water control plant.

Light microsocpe image of a tumour-like growth on the roots of a White clover seedling by transconjugant Caulobacter MCDF100.

Eckhardt Gel Plasmid Analysis

  • Lane 1: E.coli PN200 containing pPN1, a co-integrate symbiotic plasmid.
  • Lane 2. MCDF100
  • Lane 3. MCDF23
