Blue Glass

In Venice there are many skilled craftsman that make fine jewellery from porcelein and glass. Here is a method to produce your own Blue glass!

Please read the important reminder below!

In an evaporating dish dehydrate 10 mL of Sodium silicate using high heat until you are left with a white powder.
Add 1 tablespoon of Borax (Sodium Borate) and 1/2 teaspoon of Cobalt Chloride.
Grind well to mix and then heat with a blow pipe or blow torch to make the glass.

You might like to use nichrome wire to make earings, a pendant, etc.

Take care when using flames and glass. Glass can still be very hot even when it looks normal.

ALWAYS ASK AN ADULT FOR HELP WHEN CARRYING OUT THIS EXPERIMENT.

Try to visit a local glass blower or a glass factory.
